About This Sermon
In the wilderness temptation of Matthew 4, Jesus is not just resisting Satan — he is retracing Israel's story. Called out of Egypt as God's firstborn son, led through the water and into the wilderness, Israel grumbled over bread, demanded proof at Massah, and bowed to a golden calf. Jesus faces those same three tests and answers each one with the faithfulness Israel never had. Understanding how badly the story had gone before him is what lets us grasp how good the good news really is.
