About This Sermon
A study of Genesis 18 and 19, where Abraham's hospitality to three strangers and Sodom's violence against them show two opposite ways of treating people made in God's image. The repeated "outcry" of Sodom echoes Abel's blood, the days of Noah, and Babel, telling us that sin causes real suffering and that God hears it. God answers Sodom with justice, yet he remembers Abraham's intercession and brings Lot out — a foreshadowing of Jesus, who is both the just judge and the one who pleads our case. We are called to use what God has given us for good, to pay attention to those who suffer, and to hold justice and mercy together.
